This is our forecast for the winter of 2013-14. For the 2014-15 Winter Outlook, click here »

This forecast is for the United States. For the Canadian forecast, click here.

After the unusually warm and snowless winter of 2011—2012, many people questioned if winter could make a comeback. Well it did. Last winter was cold and especially snowy.

So, what’s in store for this winter? The “Days of Shivery” are back! For 2013—2014, we are forecasting a winter that will experience below average temperatures for about two-thirds of the nation. A large area of below-normal temperatures will predominate from roughly east of the Continental Divide to the Appalachians, north and east through New England. Coldest temperatures will be over the Northern Plains on east into the Great Lakes. Only for the Far West and the Southeast will there be a semblance of winter temperatures averaging close to normal, but only a few areas will enjoy many days where temperatures will average above normal.

Precipitation-wise, the Southern Plains, Midwest, and Southeast will see above-normal conditions, while the rest of the country will average near normal. With a combination of below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation the stage will be set for the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Central and Northern New England to receive lots of snow. Farther south, where the thermometer will be vacillating above or below the freezing mark, Southern New England, Southeast New York, New Jersey, and down through the Mid-Atlantic region will be seeing either copious rains and/or snows.

And yet, the Pacific Northwest (or is it “northwet?”) where indeed wet weather is almost a given during the winter months, the overall winter season could average out drier than normal.

Significant snowfalls are forecast for parts of every zone. Over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, we are “red-flagging” the first ten days of February for possible heavy winter weather. More importantly, on February 2, Super Bowl XLVIII will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey’s Meadowlands–the very first time a Super Bowl will be played outdoors in a typically cold weather environment. We are forecasting stormy weather for this, the biggest of sporting venues. But even if we are off by a day or two with the timing of copious wind, rain, and snow, we wish to stress that this particular part of the winter season will be particularly volatile and especially turbulent.

And mid-March could bring a wave of storminess stretching almost from coast to coast, bringing a wide variety of precipitation types as well as strong and gusty winds.

57 Denise { 02.24.14 at 7:55 pm }

Kim– Kentucky meets the criteria for the humid subtropical likewise to how where I am in Virginia does as well including Maryland.

In North America, humid subtropical climates are almost exclusively focused on the American South, including states like the eastern half of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, most of Florida, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland and sections of West Virginia. The climate in many of these states are subject to extremes. The humid subtropical climate can also be found in the Mid-Atlantic, primarily southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, far southern New York, specifically New York City and Long Island. It can also be found in the Midwest, in the central and southern portions of Kansas and Missouri, and the southern portions of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern areas included in this climate see snowfall during the winter, with occasional heavy storms. However, most of Florida only occasionally see the extremes that are more common in the rest of the American South. In south Florida, the climate is tropical. The humid subtropical climate is best exemplified by the Deep South, because the summers are long and almost tropical, and temperatures reach freezing only a few times in the winter with rare snowfall, usually 3″ or less. Summers in this zone are hot and humid, with daily averages above 77F with average daily highs above 86F.

On the other end, areas in the upper south and the Mid-Atlantic, the subtropical climate isn’t as clarified as areas farther south. This region experiences deep freezes and snowfall in the winter months which leads to shorter growing seasons whereas average daily highs in the winter hover below 55F and daily lows close to, or below freezing. The subtropical climate is most noticeable in the summer where very warm to hot conditions capped with high humidity take hold in May-September, similar to the deep south.

Our weather does best match areas farther north like the Midwest and Northeast because of our colder winters. This is probably why the Farmers Almanac puts Kentucky in the Midwest and Virginia in the Northeast forecasting zone.

My reply to :”Dawn { 02.10.14 at 1:13 am }

I’m here in Phoenix. It’s been mild and pretty much bone dry. Our skies are no longer blue as the lines from the jets fill the sky. Anytime I see rain come our way, the lines get real heavy and the rain is taken out of the forecast. It’s terrible what our govt is doing to us and the Earth. I remember when no lines scarred the sapphire blue. So I have to respectfully disagree that it’s God’s weather… it’s more like geoengineering, which is damaging the ozone and creating disease. I wish people would look up and call their Congresspersons and get this project stopped. I long to see blue skies without lines and burning eyes again… don’t you?’ Dawn, I’m here in Alabama and have never before in my life witnessed Chemtrails like I have seen. If the sky is blue and cloudless before lunch the chemtrail jets appear with their X’s and tic-tac-toe patterns across the sky. I’ve witnessed jets flying straight up or straight down (almost as if they were crashing into the earth). By 1 or 2:00 pm the whole sky is completely white as the chemtrails (or contrails as my critics want to call them, because they believe everything they are told) join together to obscure the sun. It’s not a conspiracy…it is happening. I’ve also noticed that the weather goes to hell in a hand-basket a few days later…even our local weather forecasters can’t get the forecast right. They can’t predict snow in Alabama if the forecast calls for 34 degree weather! It can’t snow at 34 degrees…but it does in some areas! What chemical are they spraying with a freezing point greater than 32 degrees? It’s crazy…but it’s happening. Google: Geoengineering…it’s been happening for years.

59 Aly { 02.22.14 at 1:16 pm }

Kim, Charlie is right. Geographically, Kentucky is NOT part of the South. You don’t have to “google it”. Gaining this knowledge only requires being able to read a map. Kentucky may be CULTURALLY part of the Southeast, but weather does not recognize culture which is why you will find that Kentucky is not included in the Southeast. Geographically, the South does not begin at the Mason-Dixon Line, despite how “Southern” all of the border states feel. Kentucky is geographically closer related to the Midwest, and Virginia and West Virginia are part of the North. Of course, you could also categorize these three states as “central”, but historically we just have “north, south, and midwest”. However, like I said, culturally you are part of the South.

Hi Carol,
I can assure you that this is the map printed in our 2014 edition. There is more than one publication with a name similar to ours. It sounds like you got your hands on one of our competitors’ books.

67 Carol { 02.14.14 at 12:21 am }

I’m reading the hard copy of 2014 Farmer’s Almanac, as I do every year. The map in the book for weather does not in the least bit match the lap you feature above. In the book Chicago is having a mild and dry winter. Above map reflects the reality – after the fact. Please, do not use the convenience of the internet to make it appear to be correct. No one is correct 100% of the time. You took the fun right out of reading your magazine.

84 Heidi { 01.26.14 at 3:54 pm }

Farmer’s Almanac – you got it SO WRONG for California! I had high hopes when I read your predictions last August. But nope, not cooler than usual and no rain. None. Nada. Nothing!

This winter in Minnesota has been brutal. Getting really tired of it. Lots of cold, wind and just long winter days. Hopefully February will be a little better, Ready to get out of here one of these winters.

89 Marcus { 01.22.14 at 4:26 pm }

I would say living in the Midwest that this forecast came true and is on-going. Iowa can be cold but days in the low single digits and even -single digits is getting old. I also read that the reason would be due to an on-slought of Alberta Clippers. With another visit from the Polar Vortex looming and tain of Clippers on the way, I think today, Saturday, and Monday will make the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of the year to impact the area. With each one, temps get into the 20’s out ahead of the systems and then drop like a rock on the back side with the help of 30-50 mph winds. I will say the snows have been a bit down, frequent but generally less than 4 inches. Typical of clippers but I would like to see the 12-16 inches come through just once this year.

93 ashley mayberry { 01.19.14 at 11:42 pm }

Well the prediction for Texas to be frosty and wet didn’t last that long…maybe 2 wks hahaha hardly anything wet!oh well all in God’s hands!

94 jim { 01.19.14 at 5:52 pm }

After reading these comments, I’m convinced that we’re surrounded by idiots. You people act as if the Farmers’ Almanac actually controls the weather and/or can tell you what to expect on a certain given day 4 months from now.

95 raeannahsmommy { 01.17.14 at 2:45 pm }

IS there any way to see weather for a specific city on a specific day? Not just the 4 month thing?

96 Jaime McLeod { 01.16.14 at 12:43 pm }

You can see up to four free months of our forecast here:

100 Tattyhoker { 01.07.14 at 8:34 pm }

While I can’t say I like this kind of cold, nature balances things out in her own way. A good freeze like this is necessary to kill off whatever bugs are left over from summer. These several warm winters have produced extreme mosquito, no see-um and other garden pest hold overs that burrowed in the soil and survived, which made a normal problem exponentially worse. So bundle up and say goodbye to pests.

101 beverly h smith { 01.07.14 at 8:18 am }

I have always used the Farmers Almanac to plan my garden in Michigan. Now I live in IDAHO and I still use it to plant my potatoes and vegetables plus my flowers.We will be dry and plan of action for conserving our water again this year. Thanks Farmers Almanac for 34 years of wonderful gardening and knowing what the weather would be like.

110 Charon { 12.27.13 at 10:31 pm }

Interesting. I notice that this is way more accurate than the other well-known almanac for they are totally off the mark for this winter! The forecast presented here has, so far, been very accurate for where I live, in N.E Ohio. We’ve had some painfully cold days and plenty of snow this past month.

111 snowman { 12.21.13 at 8:26 am }

Detroit is gonna get bombed this year! we are due…..old school winter coming back

112 mplo { 12.13.13 at 5:40 pm }

I only wish that our area would do a better job of snow removal than they do, so that various activities wouldn’t have to be suspended and driving wouldn’t have to be banned every time we get a super-big snowfall. The city should find a better place to dump excessive snow, instead of leaving it in piles along the sides of the main thoroughfares, and to really enforce the “no parking during snow emergencies” policies, tow vehicles whose owners don’t cooperate with that ruling, make more garages and parking lots available for both parking and dumping excess snow, and really plow the streets on both sides, and salt the roads and sidewalks thoroughly. I also think that the city should crack down on those who are too lazy to shovel and salt down their sidewalks and fine them a heavy fine.

113 karen { 12.11.13 at 2:30 am }

I live in Ft. Worth originally from Midland, TX. We just had icemageddon here. I think it is the worst ICE storm we have had since I’ve lived here. The ice at my house was around 6in….and it is still on the ground. People stranded for days on the Interstates that run through DFW…had to call in the National Guard to rescue people and it has still not thawed out. When you have to call other states for help then you know it is bad. We desperately need the rain. The whole state is in a drought. I love the cold and snow just not the ice. Very dangerous out there. This has gone on since Thursday….also no gas at the gas stations bc the tankers cant get in to refill the pumps.

114 Jimmer { 12.10.13 at 11:50 pm }

Great Comments:
I’ve seen a lot of diferent areas, midwest, northwest, NY Long Island, and All the southern states as well. I live in Texas and I Love Texas so much. The weather is so Awesome here as storms roll through fast. I like the changes as the come quickly. MO, KS, NE You can keep those weather systems to yourselves, thank you very much. I mean hey, 3-4 weeks of the same ol same old weather, extremely cold and windy Nebraska. NO Absolutley not! Missouri well ,ahhmmm like it says, Misery. You will pay somewhere at some point with Misery weather when it Lands. I say Land, thats what it does in Misery. It comes down straight down on ya, hard and heavy. Snow is Blizzardly like even in Mid March. But Man o Man o, Texas, I can drive 3 hours south and get a 20 degree warmup in Austin or San Antonio. Its Flip Flops here in North Texas without a Beach most days. Like April 15 to Nov 1 and I’ll say not bad not bad at all. Been and 1,000 yeards from a tornado once here. I admit it, not fun and very helplessly panicy when it hit. But I love to see 35 miles in front of me and all around me when I am out traveling the cityscape. Once you move here You will never forget it. If you’re 1800 miles away and its Summer. You will swear on a box of cinnamon popcorn you can Smell Texas dirt, right after a rainstorm. Ya gotta see it to live it, breathe it to feel it. I Think we will have 80 degree weather at Christmas 2013 this year. I am betting the Alamanac Is Way Way off like a Politician in a Potatoe patch.

115 Massachusetts { 12.10.13 at 8:31 am }

Here in Mass its been getting kinda cold……. It was 60 degrees one day and then from then on its been in the low 30s to the teens……..I love winter I hope that the Farmers Almanac is right and we get hammered wit snow this year…….its crazy how New England can be 60 degrees one day and 17 degrees the very next day…….There really is no plae like New England…..I know other places have bad whether but one day u can fish in a tank top and the next u have ur snow suit on….Matter of fact its snowing outside right now..It just started.

As a person who has lived in the Boston area/Bay State pretty much my entire life, I hope that we get just enough snow to make things look pretty. I hate it when we get so much that everything’s at a standstill, if one knows what I mean. What I find most bothersome is the poor job of snow-removal that Boston, the city just outside Boston in which I reside, and the next city nearby that these cities’ public works departments do after a big snowstorm. If the city public works department did a better job of snow-removal, and that people would shovel and salt down their sidewalks as their supposed to, it would be way easier, but lots of people are extremely lazy, and the cities quite inefficient when it comes to snow removal in the winter.

It’s been blistering cold in Central New Jersey. Way below normal, I’m stocking up on gasoline, salt, batteries etc nice and early this year. I’m expecting a terrible winter based on research.

132 Winnie Jenkems { 11.24.13 at 11:41 am }

Apparently it doesn’t snow in the Philadelphia / Mid-Atlantic area anymore; I can’t remember a significant snowfall since winter 2009-10. We shall see if the February prediction comes to be true, but I remember years ago seeing snows in November & December. A white Christmas has become almost out of the question.

133 Robert M { 11.24.13 at 11:35 am }

I live in northeastern IL and I can’t wait for the snow!! I want 20 feet of snow!! I’m hoping for a few blizzards on top of it all! I love the cold and snow! For those of you who don’t and complain about it every year move to Florida or southern Cali otherwise quit your whining!! Happy holidays! Right now it’s 7 degrees outside enjoying this!!

134 robert mcclain { 11.24.13 at 8:06 am }

I live in the northwet. I remember we used to get a lot of snow back in the 70s and 80s. I love the snow but also love the rain,the short summers we have. Ppl I know say we are going to have a bad winter this year. Here in kent wa.? Yeah right. A bad winter for me is no snow. A winter storm, if we get it, they think is bad. Me, bring it on i say. Just keep the power on so we don’t lose anymore snakes.Pet snakes.

California where we live gets 400 to 625 inches of snow each winter. I love it when the LA people think they are the “only ” California.
Nope it’s not all warm and sunny in California.
The snow pack is the reason for all the farms. More diary production tan Wisconsin. More vegetables and fruit than any other state: more cattle than Texas… I could go on and on but it just pisses people off.
Anyway: can’t wait for a big snow year! But I’ll bet it’s going to be a bit lean this year. Oh we’ll. lived in SE Mich for a couple years and LOVED IT! Midwest is great! Only problem is ice and icy rain. But we loved the snow!
Anyway plz remember California is more than LA. We have more people than Canada! Heck just LA county has more people than Michigan! Which is the 8th biggest state. Linda hard to believe!(but it’s true!). Hope it snows this year but I think it will only be a little. Oh well.

150 Heather Eaton { 11.12.13 at 4:12 am }

I live in Oklahoma right now, and we are having very cold weather pretty early this year. The last few years it had been oddly warm, and the summer hot. This summer was chilly, and we almost skipped fall in my region. I think we will have piercing air, and normal snow/ice (meaning about 3-5 inches of snow maybe, and 1-4 inches of ice). I live in Muskogee, so that is northeast oklahoma. What do you guys think? Also from last spring, I believe Spring 2014 will be dangerous for tornadoes as well.

On the 1-4 inches of ice? A few years back, the ice was about 2 inches thick, my fence was almost a solid wall of 4 inches of ice. I had to take a hammer to the fence with some good whacks to be able to break the ice enough to get out of the fence to see if there were lines down in the streets (which was to see if we could get out to walk and carry family,child, a few blocks away to our house, as lines were down in are yard, as well as limbs, and a tree that was about 100 years old. no power for 3-4 weeks and this was a home with 2 children under 18 and 3 people over 50 )

151 jason { 11.10.13 at 10:28 pm }

upper peninsula of Michigan, yes it’s going to snow! yes, it’s going to be a lot! I’ll just wait until June to see the sun, I hope it doesn’t scare me like it did this summer, I forgot what it was after clouds and hundred inches of snow for 8 months. But I love it! get the ski’s and snowshoes ready!

I live in the lower Hudson Valley, N.Y. I LOVE the snow! Cuddling under a blanket, hot chocolate, a good movie. What I call a carpet picnic… lay a couple blankets down and everyone picks a favorite food, play a game, share a omg moment. When the snow stops the fun begins! Snowball fights, Igloo forts, snowpeople, snowangels and of course, taking turns shoveling. Back in for a hot cup of something ie; cocoa, tea, coffee..makes for a good night sleep and memories of snowfall. Who don’t love snow? I’ll put the blankets out and you can pick the game.

158 Geids66 { 11.06.13 at 11:32 am }

I live outside of Cleveland, OH. With winter coming we depend on Lake Erie for mostly our snowfall. It ‘s called lake effect snow. You can a have a blizzard in one area, drive 2 miles down the road and see bright sunshine with no snow at all. We always get snow in Cleveland. Some years are heavier than others. If Lake Erie freezes over by February, then our snowfall lessens, unless we get a storm from the south. Living here 40 years and I wouldnt want it any other way.

178 Eileen { 10.28.13 at 10:46 pm }

I live in Omaha, Nebraska. I’m hoping for winter like back in the 90’s where we had snow days and could barely leave the house. I think Omaha Nebraska needs a real winter.

180 Caleb { 10.28.13 at 3:23 pm }

I’ve lived in New England all my life and can’t imagine not having to deal with snow and the cold in winter. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, and think of the beautiful art, music and poetry that centuries of winters have inspired. Crackling fire, Christmas boughs, seasonal foods, family gatherings, solitary excursions through the snow under twinkling stars….I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

181 Kimberly Medina { 10.28.13 at 6:28 am }

Here in Lower Hudson Valley, NY. I am not liking the sounds of this, I really hate cold, but everyone I care about is in NY so this is where I stay.

182 Amy { 10.26.13 at 11:31 pm }

I live in west Tennessee. We rarely get any snow here. I’m a teacher, so I’d love some snow days this school year! Fingers crossed!

183 ranfast 52 { 10.25.13 at 9:52 pm }

Looking for a snowy Kentucky winter !

184 amy { 10.25.13 at 12:18 pm }

I live in Tennessee and I would love to see plenty of snow this year.

185 dannycorley66 { 10.25.13 at 9:16 am }

I Am ready for Winter In Michigan too! Even if early and if its really super cold and snowy I love snow!

186 Rae { 10.24.13 at 4:56 pm }

I live in Idaho. I really hope we get a really cold and snow this year. That’s what Idaho is known for right? This last summer was extremely hot. We had days of 108 degrees and for basically over 100 degrees the rest of the time. The average temperature was 102! So um Hoping for really cold and lots of snow. I thought if u got a really hot summer it would b a really cold winter? But who knows cause this farmers almanac doesn’t say much for the Pacific northwest. What? We don’t have weather here or what? That needs to change quickly. My hubby hoping for mastery winter, he’s income depends on cold snowy weather

187 Michael Cleland { 10.24.13 at 9:53 am }

I was hoping for a Michigan winter like the winters when I was younger and the license plates read winter wonder land

188 Olivia { 10.24.13 at 2:24 am }

Would love to see snow like in (about) early 2000 in MD (Aberdeen). Tried to go sledding with snow to my knees needless to say I didn’t make it very far past my house.

189 German Camou { 10.24.13 at 12:52 am }

I live in Hermosillo Sonora Mexico to the Northwest Part of Mexico, border with Arizona State, we had a long drought the last summer (July to September/2013) and we have drought right now, I want to know if we will have Rainfall the next winter 2013/2014, because are very necesary for our state. Hermosillo is near of Nogales Az about 250 kms to the south.

190 Cathy R { 10.23.13 at 7:04 pm }

I live in Calumet (Upper Peninsula) Mi., and I love the four seasons even if it is colder than normal with more snow this winter.

191 royal_r { 10.23.13 at 3:15 pm }

I would be utterly PSYCHED if this pans out to be true, and it gets that cold and snowy ! I work w/ Ski School, so yes, we need it…..
Half the time the Farmers Alm_ forecast is [not] spot-on, so only time will tell. But, encouraging to hear, nonetheless !

192 Vauny { 10.23.13 at 1:59 pm }

I live in Eastern Wa and just moved here for Western WA and i love the snow, i dont like driving in it since a lot of people panic, but i love the snow, the snow we got in 2011/2012 was awesome for the week it was here, and the over 3-4 fet we got in a matter of a day was awesome and my kids loved it, but in eastern wa about 50 miles west of spokane could sure use some snow since thats were i will be and my youngest didnt get to play in the snow in 2011 he was only 5 months old, so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Just hope that weather is wrong and WA does get more snow then normal

193 copperkid { 10.22.13 at 1:19 pm }

Between SuperStorm Sandy in October 2012 & the Blizzard of February 2013 I’m ready for a nice quite winter 2013-2014. So far it’s been a fantastic fall – now let’s just hope that winter follows in the same pattern!

194 samsinka1 { 10.22.13 at 9:25 am }

I live in Pittsburgh PA and it looks like we are setting up to have a very eventful winter! lake effect, coastal storms, and not to mention arctic outbreaks. Looking forward to a very cold and white winter ahead.

196 Nance { 10.20.13 at 11:36 pm }

I live in Eastern Washington and absolutely hate snow. Good to see maybe drier than normal prediction. Will say it’s better than Minnesota where I grew up but still too much white stuff here for me.

197 debra { 10.20.13 at 6:13 pm }

Live in Georgia and havent seen snow in a long time.And I am so ready for it.But will have to wait and see what happens.sqirrels and chickmunks are gathering up their nuts and burying them.

198 Linda { 10.20.13 at 5:15 pm }

I live in Minnesota too. Nick. and I don’t really like winter anymore. Last winter was a lot of ice, our whole yard was ice from January to end of March. Try walking on it. Not fun. Would rather have snow anyday. But I am retired now so will not have to go out in it and drive in it.

199 Stephanie Gent { 10.20.13 at 8:40 am }

I love snow and my seasons, and for that reason, I chose to live in the northeast. I am so excited to hear that we may have snow fall totals that exceed previous years. So looking forward to it.

200 Jay { 10.19.13 at 10:10 pm }

I would love to have snow in the northeast part of PA. Yea we had few snow storms but it wasn’t enough to satisfy. I just bought a new truck with a lift kit. and all I wanna do is have a lil fun in the snow with my

201 Dick { 10.19.13 at 1:30 pm }

Snow! let me tell you about snow the blizzard of 1948 buried us in Menominee Mi. cars disappear store fronts you couldn’t get in. They had to bring in big FWD’s with snow blowers 5 to 6 ft tall to remove the snow, in the process they destroyed quit a few vehicles. It was a northeaster that snow for three days and nights. We were buried I mean buried!!!

202 andy C { 10.19.13 at 10:56 am }

205 Chad { 10.16.13 at 11:11 am }

Bring on the snow!!! I live in Nebraska and I want to see the kind of snow storms and blizzards we used to have in the 70’s and 80’s! All snow and no ice would be wonderful! I know I am asking for a lot! :) We need all the moisture we can get for the crops of next year!

206 No way { 10.15.13 at 6:03 pm }

I hate snow. Why do I live here in Maine. People who love it do not have to drive in it.

I really hate the snow.

211 davidrodgers { 10.12.13 at 1:26 am }

I live in Maine and I hope we get a couple of those big 3 1/2 footers again that was awesome. 2011-2012 was very warm after we had that shocking snow storm before halloween. Then was really warm I hope not again, I really like the winters and want it big this year.

212 greg { 10.10.13 at 4:51 am }

Hope the East Coast gets plenty of snow for Pa.. I am in the mood..

I Live In Western Md an It sure would be nice if we would get the snow for the Northeast like they are calling for I’m a Deer Hunter an it would be really nice if we get some snow during the Thanksgiving Holiday .But the last few winters we had very little snow so we will see what this winter brings,,,, bring it on OLD MAN WINTER

214 Al Lane { 10.09.13 at 2:44 pm }

Maybe our grandson’s from Texas will have some snow this winter when they come to S.E. Iowa . We’ll see what happens!!!

215 Kimberly Covington { 10.09.13 at 11:01 am }

I live south of Houston and the winters are horriable. It is wet, cold, cloudy and chills you to the bone. The humidity is still above 80% even in the winter. Frosty for south Texas means very light frost and its gone before the sun comes up. Texas has 8 months of summer and four months of cool weather.

216 Autumn Starlight { 10.09.13 at 2:58 am }

I live in Omaha, NE and last winter was great I’m really hoping for a winter like we had in 2010-2011. I love the cold and snow, would rather be freezing cold than hot and miserable. :) .. Bring it on Winter of 2013-2014!! :D

217 apple lady { 10.08.13 at 5:23 pm }

what is the forecast for central Pennsylvania this winter?

218 connEr { 10.06.13 at 7:41 pm }

The Pacific Northwest should see some snow this year! They haven’t for so long, and it’s about time. This article doesn’t explain much about the Pacific Northwest, but in my opinion, they should see VERY cold tempatures with LOTS of precipitation. Hopefully snowfall, for my sake, because I swear that I haven’t seen any snow since 2008.

219 mattzweck { 10.05.13 at 7:25 pm }

i live in southern California and yes the high sierra does need snow. I’ve also done my own research and looking at the forecast. and i was predicting with my weather friend at the end of Oct. maybe some rain.and have snow for the high sierra not sure yet though.

220 Horst K. { 10.05.13 at 6:11 pm }

Lived on Long Island, New York most of my life, with never enough snow to speak of. Moved to the beautiful Acadia Region of Maine and still not enough snow.

Please Please FROSTY bring it on lots and lots of SNOW

221 Bethany Taylor { 10.05.13 at 1:16 pm }

“Wet and white” doesn’t sound very good to me…….sounds like we’ll probably get those 1-3 inch rain/snow storms like we did last year, and when it snowed, we didn’t even get 1-3 inches……we got like less than an inch. I will be very upset if this winter turns out to be like the last two for us in the Mid Atlantic. Oh, how I miss the winters of 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 when we had those “snowmageddon” storms!!!

222 Lisa { 10.04.13 at 7:10 pm }

Could the weather forecast be a little more specific for South Central Alaska? We would like to know what is in store for us too. We are also part of the US.

223 MaestroLM { 10.03.13 at 8:59 pm }

I wish we could get a little more specific re: conditions for the far West. We’ve had miserably dry, too-warm winters for the past two years and really can’t take another one. I live in the High Sierra just outside Yosemite and the entire state depends upon the winter snowpack for its water needs throughout the remainder of the year – and one more dry, warm winter will be devastating. Global warming IS real, and we’ve seen its results, not only in the incrementally drying-out conditions throughout California’s forest, but in the resulting devastating wildfires, particularly this past summer. Been far too long with far too little snow –

224 Chris Bodishbaugh { 10.03.13 at 5:09 pm }

Christmas 2012 was one to remember! We had blizzard conditions, and a foot of snow on the ground in parts of Arkansas! I am hoping we get more winter like that in January and February 2014. I am moving to Central Coast of California, love the winters in Arkansas, but hate the summers!

225 dannycorley66 { 10.03.13 at 3:58 pm }

I sure hope Michigan gets tons & tons of Snow I love it ! ! ! Looking forward to it End of November into December, Snowmobile time!

226 napoleon { 10.03.13 at 3:53 pm }

Im from Chicago and I hope we get buried. I run a commercial snow removal company and have had a bad last couple years.

227 clp1979 { 10.03.13 at 12:26 pm }

How is the winter weather for Central Alabama? Would love a White Christmas!!!

228 Nick Pease { 10.03.13 at 11:46 am }

I live in northeast Minnesota. I have noticed a pattern over the last few years. I call it the “every other year” pattern. 2012-2013 was extremely cold and snowy, 2011-2012 was very warm and way below normal snow, 2010-2011 was very cold with a lot of snow, etc. Summer 2013 didn’t start here until late June and it was way below normal. Summer 2012 was hot and dry, summer 2011 was cold and crappy. If this pattern continues this 2013-2014 year, we should have the total opposite of what is being forecasted, which would be totally fine with me, I love warm weather. Although if you love warm weather, Minnesota really isn’t the place to live. Just hope for the best.

229 Linda { 10.02.13 at 7:58 pm }

I am from Minnesota, hope we have a nice winter, but I doubt it. This past winter went in to May. Not fun.

230 bonnie { 10.02.13 at 7:53 pm }

I live in northeast ohio and really excited about the snowy and cold winter predicted for us. I grew up in Connecticut and I love the winter. Had enough of the hot humid weather for a while. :)

231 brandon { 10.02.13 at 3:57 pm }

last year and the year before that they have forecasted the southeast (tennessee) way off. last year they said it would be a wet and cold winter. we wre above average and no measurable snow. since january 2011, we have not had any measurable snow. time for a change

232 Jamie { 10.02.13 at 3:06 pm }

Heck yeah! Moved from CA to AR, and was amazed to see that snow isn’t exactly a regular part of the season, like states to the north. 11-12 and 09-10 (I think it was), was barely any snow. Yet 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 we caught some serious storms. Anyway, what’s the point of leaving CA if not to get snow? Lol. Anyway, it seems to be year on, year off, we get hit. So I hope we get hit nice and frosty, as you’ve estimated.

233 Shelby { 10.01.13 at 9:47 pm }

I live in upstate New York in the adirondack mts and I would love to see lots of snow christmas has always been my favorite time of year since I wAs a kid and it’s not christmas with out it it’s so pretty with all the trees covered old man winter you better bring us a lot of snow for christmas.

234 MommyD { 10.01.13 at 2:40 pm }

I remember the days when there were little to no snow plows.. We got out w our tractors and shovels and sometimes brooms to clear our own paths. I never missed a day of work on my 20 plus mile commute… Maybe if more folks got up off of their ..couches.. to do their own clearing, none of us would have to do the long hours clearing their drive, walks, and streets… BE PREPARED!

235 Kesha { 10.01.13 at 1:34 pm }

LOVE the farmers almanac on here at least once a week but I really wanna know how the winter for North Carolina is going to be!! I live in the foothills (north eastern) part of NC.. Really hoping for a very snowy winter!! So is my 2 year old!!!!!

No such thing as global warming, give it a rest tree huggers! That is all

240 Kristin Haskins { 09.29.13 at 9:29 am }

Oh, how I dread Winter! Last year was horrible! I had to shovel wet, heavy snow a LOT, just to get to my mailbox. I’m no “spring chicken,” either! Please, let it be milder…or let me find a way to afford to pay someone to plow or shovel so I can get out when I need to for necessities. I’m already getting depressed….

241 Rip VonHuesen { 09.28.13 at 11:48 pm }

It’s what New Jersey has been asking for.

242 Marianne { 09.28.13 at 1:24 pm }

Please let the NE have snow this year. I am scheduled for a Vermont ski vacation Super Bowl weekend so please let there be snow. The past few years have really hit the ski industry hard with the decreased snow falls. I’m ready!

243 g500d { 09.28.13 at 1:16 pm }

Bring on the snow in the northeast. It’s almost skiing season: and there was much rejoicing.

244 Jack { 09.28.13 at 3:08 am }

Come on Farmers Almanac! You guys give everyone east of the Rockies about 5 paragraphs and then leave the PNW (where I live) like one paragraph and the rest of the West is clueless. All we get is a picture. You need to forecast to the whole country. Even if the weather in most of the west isn’t as impactful as it is in the east people deserve an explanation. You pretty much left out a third of the country.

245 zachd150 { 09.28.13 at 12:05 am }

Michigan needs a winter with tons of blizzards and snow. We love snowmobiling up here and the last few winters have stunk! Let it snow let it snow!!!!!

246 Joshua Bacon { 09.27.13 at 11:52 pm }

biting cold and snowy for Kentucky bring it on! I hope we have pretty fall weather for awhile with crisp days and nights and pretty fall colors in the foliage! Love lots of snow in the forecast for the winter season as long as I have lots of food in the house! LOL!

247 megan { 09.26.13 at 2:45 am }

Hey what about puyallup wa I’m tired of hearing about the east coast what about us! I could say dry and chilly! How about a little detail!

248 Martha Sims { 09.26.13 at 1:17 am }

Live in Argo,Al. All I want for Christmas is a lot of cold weather and plenty of snow. Bring it on Old Man Winter. I will be waiting and watching and praying for a white Christmas.

249 Jane { 09.25.13 at 10:31 pm }

Wishing for alot of snow. Live in upstate ny to get all my season’s. Beautiful country here

250 Chris Cote { 09.25.13 at 5:53 pm }

Between our new axial wobble, and a bit of global warming (not entirely anthropocentrically driven) we are due for some awesome winter weather. I do agree that with more moisture in the atmosphere, and more energy being trapped from the sun, we are going to see more powerful winter storms, power outages, and general mayhem….. I am not complaining in the slightest, as I heat with a woodstove, and when the power goes out, my house stays a balmy 90 degrees. As for road travel, ummm, buy a Subaru, purchase a top shelf pair of snow tires, and learn to appreciate driving in horrible weather with a full tank of gas. I see a blizzard as a tranquil time where I can cruise around the state in 2nd gear and sip coffee while watching the fury of the blizzard unfold… What a magnificent experience…. BRING ON WINTER PLEASE!!! Oh, and safe, thick ice, because I WANT some ice fishing time! Oh, and FYI, a rachet-style winch and a couple of logging chains are great for if you actually DO get stuck, but Subaru+competent driver= NEVER STUCK!

251 Joe Wilkerson { 09.25.13 at 5:17 pm }

Please God let it snow and kill these ticks. We in East Texas would love it to snow about 3 or 4 times and have it stay on the ground for at least a week each time. We are still under burn bans and need rain as you have promised. Keep the black ice, snow is fine.

252 Mary Stitch { 09.25.13 at 4:55 pm }

I live on the Central Coast of California. The last time we saw snow here was in the mid 90’s. I would dearly love to see a little snow fall again, We have had some very cold days and nights the last few winters and even got down to single digits. unfortunately it was also very dry. I’m from the NW so I really miss the rain and snow…although I cannot complain because it is so beautiful here…

253 Tom { 09.25.13 at 4:14 pm }

The Almanac can say that it will be cold but in all likelihood the winter nationally will fall within the 50 percentile range milder than the 120 year mean Last winter was a rare exception and it wasn’t especially cold. To expect two winters in a row colder than the average is not prudent prognostication. We are experiencing an increasing greenhouse effect and solar insolation is greater than usual whether it be from solar activity, atmospheric clarity, or both. That said, if FA gets it right, I will praise them to no end.

254 Rees { 09.24.13 at 11:52 pm }

We are thirsty here in the Great Pacific Northwest!!! Please bring the snow/rain our way!!!!

255 tom { 09.24.13 at 4:43 pm }

recent winters in the northeast have been short. About six weeks worth.. There was one winter recent in Boston that was a no-show with less than 10 inches snow. i think this winter will be drier and a little colder than average . snow near average. The greenhouse gases work to shorten our winters and the sun continues to be a little hotter than usual. If I’m wrong it will be snowy and a little colder than average like 2004-05. A blizzard possible

256 Chris { 09.23.13 at 3:29 pm }

I wish I could send all the snow to the people who want. I have had enough. I am sick and tired of plowing snow. People tend to forget about the people who plow your roads so you can go to your parties on weekends, Super bowl parties and let’s not forget Christmas and New Year. Please give your plow truck drivers a break. And a simple THANK YOU goes along way.

257 Ann { 09.23.13 at 11:38 am }

well its is all guess work, No one really knows what is going to happen. The weather can change very fast. I want NO snow, I have to shovel it at work and at home.

258 Robert { 09.23.13 at 11:19 am }

Man, another “wet” winter for Florida? South FL/Miami native here… I hear a lot of talk about snow, and even though we don’t get any of that, winters even down here used to be a lot more dry and we would get more cold snaps from up north (which I love). These past two or three years, we were lucky to get two cold fronts to reach us and in the meantime, it was raining so much that it could almost be compared to summer. I love cold weather and I love the dryness and clear skies it brings and for a loooong time now, I haven’t been able to enjoy that.

Coming out of a ridiculous rainy season, I am sick and tired of the heat, humidity and daily showers. Come oooon, old man winter, give us something worth looking forward to this year! Can’t wait till’ I move out of here.

259 David { 09.23.13 at 10:53 am }

When can I castarate my bull caves

260 John { 09.22.13 at 11:28 pm }

To clarify one key point for a few people on here. Global warming is definitely having an impact on weather and temperatures. As temperatures get lower, oceans are creating more moisture in the air which in turn brings larger and more powerful storms. As temperatures drop in the northern hemisphere (winter time), oceans bring in larger more moisture filled clouds and storms from the south causing us to have more precipitation. Storms are going to get stronger and stronger year after year…..Please bring on the electric cars!

261 Manu { 09.22.13 at 9:30 pm }

I live near Mt. Shasta. We have tons of squirrels and chipmunks this year, whereas I usually have one or two squirrels who annoy my dogs. I think we are going to have some serious snow. I keep hearing about the 1992 or 1994, don’t remember which, and I think we are in for a great deal of the white stuff. Should be fun!

Why arent my oak trees dropping any acorns here in central VA? This is depressing because I like to decorate with the acorns during October but as of mid-late September there are absolutely none to be found! ZERO. Is there something causing the lack of acorns? Why??? Does this mean record warm winter? The leaves are changing, the weather is getting chilly already, i even opened up some permission seeds and they point to a cold winter, geese practice flying so they can head south for winter and many fogs but no acorns. This is strange!

275 Victoria { 09.18.13 at 2:40 pm }

This forecast does not mention the Southwest. This is common for forecasting and pretty annoying when we are ignored, or the Southwest is considered to be only Phoenix (and maybe Albuquerque) forgetting about us New Mexicans that live in the Gila National Forest mountains.

278 Jeff McVey { 09.17.13 at 4:26 pm }

Haven’t seen a lot of snow in the last years here in Central NC. The Burlington and Hillsborough area. Any real good info at this point what this area may experience this winter? Come on Snow!!!

279 Jim Turner { 09.17.13 at 1:52 pm }

Would love to have lot’s of snow for the Holidays.

280 Jon { 09.17.13 at 12:34 pm }

Would love a real winter again south jersey! Bring it!

281 Cody D. { 09.17.13 at 11:20 am }

It’s September and I turned the heat on for the SECOND time last night here in lower Michigan because it got down to 33 degrees again!

282 Rachelle { 09.17.13 at 2:22 am }

Drying out here in Front Range (Colorado). With this flooding we’re still dealing with, rumors abound that our winter is going to be hellacious, with well above average snow and colder temps. Any input on the connection between the very high temperatures we experienced, immediately followed by flooding rains?

283 Beth { 09.16.13 at 10:49 pm }

However a snow like we got in 2004 of over 30 inches with drifts was not all that fun. It was my sons second winter and he was to young to play in it much. I did get pictures of him standing beside where we shoveled out, I had a dodge stratus at the time and it was completely buried and we opened our patio door and dug out holes to stick our two litters in to keep them cold since we had a deep snow drift on the patio. Got pictures of that too.

284 Beth { 09.16.13 at 10:42 pm }

Ok I am not smart when it comes to eastern, western greaakes plains. What about Southren Indiana? I’d love to see lots of snow. Love winter.

285 Lizpie { 09.16.13 at 12:54 pm }

We live in mid-coast Maine. Last year we had no snow for Christmas and then three months of storms just about every weekend. I want a white Christmas this year, then I can deal with the rest of winter!!

286 paul huntington { 09.16.13 at 11:57 am }

Hi Caleb, i think your forecast is relatively on track with the cold negative phase of North Pacific Decadal Occilation we are in right now in the northeast pacific ocean. However the super bowl prediction i might disagree with…i am thinking the jet is going to dip mid january to mid february and bring warmer moist systems mid winter through california with a more southerly jet tragectory. I do think most of the winter the jetstream will be diving down from alaska and yukon with cold storms similar to last couple years with high pressure rex block trying to establish in east pacific. Sixth official year into Cold phase of NPDO….twenty four more to go!!!! Cheers to our wild weather, paul huntington

290 Susanne { 09.15.13 at 6:47 pm }

After the battering the NY/NJ area took we sure don’t need this forecast to add insult to injury. I can deal with the cold and maybe a couple of inches of snow but anymore than that and I truly get depressed. I think younger people enjoy the white stuff more but not so much when you’re older. If it weren’t for my grandchild here I would be a snowbird.

291 Bear { 09.15.13 at 6:29 pm }

The squirrels are already burying nuts here in the Shenandoah valley of Virginia so I predict some cold weather coming our way-just sayin

292 Lloyd Patten { 09.15.13 at 11:07 am }

You are predicting lower temperatures and more snow for the Northeast than usual. How does this square with the concept of global Warming? Is global warming a myth? I realize that all this is moot in light of the actual weather that occurs. Where does that put you (Farmers Almanac) in making a prediction for the Northeast winter weather? Are you for real or are you doing the marketing change-up of a little of this and a little of that to satisfy the general public? Could I be the forecaster, could I predict a warmer than usual winter and could I be right? Or is there something I don’t know that your prediction includes? Is there something about your prediction that rings true or are you just blowing smoke and hope that you are right? Personally I think that MY prediction is as good as YOURS.

How will the San Jose CA winter spring forecast play out with the Redding fire Yosemitie and Mt Diablo fires. Could we be in for a drought as a result with warmer than average temps. Since your publication was printes before the fires has jour forecast changed as articles on CA weather mention the drought but nothing about winter 2013-2014 or next Spring. Thanks

We generally get the exact opposite of Seattle area in Victoria Australia so with our fire season being in the summer I will take particular note of your cold time in February which is to be volatile ….Wish you had an almanac for Australia. Most of the things are the same except for the seasons though. Thanks for your web page

304 Chris { 09.11.13 at 9:12 am }

It’s about time the Pacific Northwest has a forecast of colder temperatures and above snowfall. This last winter in the Seattle area we had nothing to blink an eye over nothing measurable to speak of. The rains will come regardless if your saying a drier winter we always get them. A mild winter last year followed by a wet Spring, then hot dry humid Summer we just experienced should set us up for a wallop of a winter. Got lots of firewood on hand and a good woodstove incase the power goes out from our Pacific storms which are predicted to be more plentiful this winter. You all enjoy what ever mother nature deals you this winter be safe stay warm! Snowless in Seattle!!

305 bsokolik { 09.10.13 at 4:43 pm }

I really hope Western Washington finally gets some good snowfall. It has been too long(5years) since any real snow has fallen.

For all the Pacific NorthWesterner’s I say yes…….. SNOW!! I will be praying for a very snowy winter where we can all slow down and look after each other. I am hoping and praying for that El Nino cycle to dump cold snowy weather!! @Linda…AMEN!! Is there anything better than a white Christmas??!!!

308 jim bobo { 09.10.13 at 2:53 pm }

i love the wet seasons of the day. i hope this winter will be the wettest winter so far. i want 10.69 feet of snow and 50 inches of rain. hope for the worst.

309 Hanuman Slattery { 09.10.13 at 2:50 pm }

the forecast is missing 1/3 of the united states. why did you stop giving a forecast for Alaska!?
Alaska does not have a general weather pattern! last year you predicted above average temps and below average snowfall for winter and above average temps and below average rain for early to mid summer. and you were spot on.
but our weather pattern is never the same…not even close. the winter before last we had record snow fall, my garage roof fell in.
a few winters back it was -30 for a month solid! in 2006 it was 30-40 degrees alot and very little snowfall……we had grass on our yard for christmas!

so……what is alaska’s winter weather going to be like???????
lots of snow?
very little snow?
warm? long streaks well below zero?
wind storms?

310 Amanda { 09.10.13 at 2:36 pm }

Usually we can ride the River a bit, but evern last year it was so low that it was not much fun. Way to much stuff to watch out for. I am ready for some snow. Hate having to travel to find it!

327 Shelby { 09.08.13 at 12:50 pm }

I live in the Mid Atlantic region ( Central Maryland),and I am a New England transplant looking forward to a cold snowy winter – like the blizzard of ’93’. The trees are already dropping leaves, the flowers in and around my Koi pond are dying back, and my fruit trees have dropped most of their fruit, and the squirrels are loading up on my neighbors nut tree.

We have not had any significant snow since Jan 2010, so let it snow. We are stocking up our freezer.

328 Debbie Lizama { 09.08.13 at 12:44 pm }

That will be so great to have cooler temps in Florida. But I would just love it to SNOW here, for about a week or so.. That would be awesome… Miss the cooler weather and snow…

329 Snowfall { 09.08.13 at 12:05 pm }

330 Todd E. { 09.07.13 at 9:33 pm }

332 christine { 09.07.13 at 5:35 pm }

I live in Columbia SC and I am hoping for cold and repeat snowstorms this winter. I am tired of 90-something temperatures and the humidity that goes with it. I have lived in the south for over 20 years and would really like to see a heavy snow in my neck of the woods. It is time for people to slow down for a few days.

333 Linda { 09.07.13 at 4:03 pm }

I am from Minnesota, and we had less snow and lots of ice last winter. I am hoping for more snow.

334 Tia { 09.07.13 at 2:32 pm }

“global warming” is a total hoax.

337 hello { 09.05.13 at 4:45 pm }

This doesn’t talk about the west coast in the actual article. The weather channel does the same thing. Why does the east coast hate the weat coast so much?
It’s funny. Just wondering.

338 Margaret { 09.05.13 at 2:26 pm }

Please let us have a real winter here in Atlanta! I feel like I haven’t seen snow in forever, and last winter was basically just like spring. So…let’s do this! LET IT SNOW IN GA!!

The call for Idaho this year is dry and chilly. Praying with you all who desperately need snow!
We need it here, badly.

342 cpfh00 { 09.04.13 at 2:51 pm }

Living in South Central Texas (Houston/Galveston area) we get summer for 9 months, fall for a few weeks, winter for about a month and spring for a few weeks. Not counting its a humid wet winter. We need a dry cold winter to kill the bugs.

343 Eric { 09.04.13 at 9:05 am }

To Ali: I’ve copied your comment on Global Warming. I can’t wait to hear how cold you are come January and February in Washington D.C. LOL.

344 wea35 { 09.04.13 at 8:35 am }

cool! snow rocks!

345 Linda { 09.04.13 at 3:25 am }

Living in Oregon, normally lush green and fruitful, this weather recently is unbearable. For those so inclined it would be great if you might consider adding your prayers along with the prayers of we who pray God touches our skies up here and opens the floodgates of heaven for the pacific northwest. Instead of this sad prediction that He would make a miracle turn around totally. . . Lots of rain every day of fall and snow all winter with a long wet springtime! Yah! Thank you . . . And thanks be to God!

346 Linda { 09.04.13 at 2:59 am }

Pray for God to make wet and snow filled seasons for the pacific northwest despite these sad predictions! God is ultimately in control . . . Right? We need relief now . . . So bad! Join me in asking God to stop whatever is holding back badly needed hydration, even saturation, nourishment, ask Him to open the floodgates of heaven and pour out showers of abundant never ending blessings wet and ice cold snow abundantly, thanking Him with total faith, as we all pray together, for He will bring us just exactly as we ask. And everybodee said AMEN !

347 Blair { 09.03.13 at 7:59 pm }

For the past five years i have followed the farmers almanac for the winter. I have found that they are accurate about 80% of the time although they may miss it by a day or two. Most major discrepancies usually error on the positive for me since i plow snow. An extra snow fall, a longer storm, colder temp. But over all, give or take, they call it right on for my purpose, making money from the snow fall. LET IT SNOW!!!

348 Thatcoolguyoo7 { 09.03.13 at 12:34 pm }

I really hope we get a snow here in northeast texas!!! We havent had one in two years!!!

349 Dan { 09.02.13 at 9:15 pm }

I agree with Indredhead, “nuts to winter.” I’m spending another winter in North Dakota working. First winter, easy and nice. Second winter average for nd but was horrible. Here’s hoping for an easy winter with easy work.

350 shauna { 09.02.13 at 8:23 pm }

we need the really cold snowy winter here in Hendersonville NC. The bugs are taking over.

351 Sherry { 09.02.13 at 4:05 pm }

The some of leaves have been turning and started falling in the beginning of August up here in Northern Colorado along the Front Range of the Rockies. Our weather is bizarre and depends on the upslope or downslope of the storm. The weather is generally NOT the same as Denver, despite what most of the weather guessers apparently think. They typically leave us out in their forecast. I pray we have a decent winter, but more importantly, that we get an overabundance of snow pack up in the mountains throughout the winter. Late wet Spring snows to meet the necessary snow pack is a blessing, but it’s better to have it all spread out to prevent so many avalanches. I love the snow, so bring it on Mother Nature!! I’m done with summer.

352 Ali { 09.02.13 at 2:35 pm }

Here’s my prediction folks…For those living in the Washington DC Metropolitan areas, to include all of the MD and VA suburbs…We will have more rain than snow and the snow that comes our way will melt quickly (sorry kids!). This Global warming is to blame. Winters in these areas will continue to become milder each year. Now sit back and see what happens!!!

353 Huang { 09.02.13 at 12:05 pm }

Hope for the cold! I am done with this heat!

354 FILO Kaa'Vitch { 09.01.13 at 8:46 pm }

Cold & Stormy! I’m calling my homeowners insurance next week to get an early low interest disater relief loan against my claim pending……. Can’t stand the thought of more power failures, snow /ice devastation, gas station lines an all the rest. Heck, I might even join the ‘ Club’ and compete as a SuperStreaker. That should get my mind off the 014 Winter Almanac Forecast.

355 Jerry { 09.01.13 at 8:11 pm }

It has been 2 weeks since I started seeing the Black Wooly Worms crossing the roadways, haven’t got a close up look at them but it’s sure is early in the year to be seeing them for a Normal Winter .

356 Pamela Thompson { 09.01.13 at 5:17 pm }

Superbowl in a snow storm!!! Wow. Could be interesting. My luck the Bengals will go and I would freeze to death

357 Mary Jane { 09.01.13 at 4:52 pm }

We have mushrooms growing wildly in the lawn and flower beds. Soooooooooooo, if winter of 2014 is anywhere as wet as the summer 2013, maybe I need to buy a new
4 wheel vehicle. May need a new snow-blower with lots more muscle than the one I
have. If the snow is wet and heavy, we are really gonna need new gear for clearing it
off the roofs as well as driveways. Bring it on…….I could really enjoy a snow/cold winter
Mother Nature (I think she needs Prozac) her mood swings are messing up our seasons!

358 merrie zvonik { 09.01.13 at 12:34 pm }

ugh! snow! bitter cold! but i guess we need it for the farmers. they have had a rough year. they need a good year for once.

359 Old Fart { 09.01.13 at 7:11 am }

Just read a horrible write up by Washington Post about this Farmers Almanac article. I think it’s quite possible they are jealous. Your publication is obviously a threat, or they wouldn’t have spent so much space trying to slam you guys.

360 al { 09.01.13 at 6:33 am }

it’s crazy how the farmers alminac can usually predict how the weather will be months in advance and our local weather station can never seem to get it right days in advanced! How does that work?

361 tawney { 08.31.13 at 8:11 pm }

I cant wait….LET IT SNOW,LET IT SNOW!!!! I live South of Seattle some years we get a ton and some nothing, A few years ago we got 3 feet in a few days praying for that winter again. It makes you slow down and just chillout and enjoy the grandkids,hot chocolate is calling my name.

362 loyce hairston { 08.31.13 at 6:00 pm }

Really hope we get the much needed rain, have noticed that the cottonwoods are dropping leaves (similar to late summer 1993-that year Halloween in Nacogdoches, Tx. was 34 degrees with a wind chill factor of 20 degrees), my yard, lakes, and people need the moisture here. Lake levels are so low, and the lakes have not had enough rain to turn sediment, water out of tap has bitter taste. PLEASE SEND THE RAIN!!!

363 sasbeach { 08.31.13 at 5:10 pm }

Here in Syracuse N.Y. you can count on at least 100 inchs of snow and freezing temps from December to March. Its like living in your freezer for 4 months. Sometimes its from November to April.

364 Gunnut81 { 08.31.13 at 11:52 am }

Sure hope we get some of the cold weather and rains in Texas were hurting here and it would be nice to hunt this season in the cold instead of sweating while hunting deer.

365 Beth Anne Cialek { 08.31.13 at 3:57 am }

Bring on the Cold! I’ve about had it with this hot humid Summer that lingers on and on! I live in the Northeastern Part of Massechusettes, and so far it seems like the South and not the North! So bring on the Cold and Snow! I’m looking forward to a Winter Wonderland, it suits me just fine! Good Riddens Summer! HELLO WINTER! Bring it on SOON! PLEASE! :-)!

366 Kathy { 08.31.13 at 12:38 am }

Would love to see several good snows,,, 6″ at least in Nashville this winter. Snow can be fun but ice is another story all together. Our summer has been very mild. We have just this week hit 96 degrees! Grass is usually brown and dry this time of the year but lawns are still green and lush. Weather patterns are crazy weird.

367 les { 08.30.13 at 8:46 pm }

We are transplants from Iowa eleven+ years ago, still can’t get used to the heat here in central Texas. Sure do miss playing with snow blower and yard tractor with blade. People that freeze in 85 degree temp’s need a doctor!!!

368 AnnaMom816 { 08.30.13 at 7:09 pm }

Here in northern Indiana, I have noticed the earliest signs of the leaves changing in late July. We’re going through a hot stretch right now, but it will cool back down to the 70s for highs on Labor Day. I wonder if this will be like in 2000 and go from summer to fall in a day. That year the snow was on the ground to stay for the winter by Halloween.

369 Patricia { 08.30.13 at 1:53 pm }

Sooo… Need a gigantic snow in BAMA! I am a snow lover and pray for the great snow every winter :(

370 Bill O { 08.30.13 at 11:46 am }

I hope and pray that you are right about “above normal precipitation” in Texas. We desperately need it. I’d also like to see the “official” models proven wrong (again). They are saying the near opposite over at the NWS.

371 Tammy smith { 08.29.13 at 11:59 pm }

Gosh i was hoping for lots of snow in vancouver washington, been very mild the last 2 years

Winter in Alabama. Sucks! Never have a good snow, it’s definitely overdue, come back blizzard of 93…

373 kdtay { 08.29.13 at 10:20 pm }

I’m just fine w our Pac NW winter forecast ; cool and drier than usual. Don’t like winter, don’t like snow, don’t like cold. Can’t afford Maui so this works…… yahoo!

So would st. louis, mo be more likely to have normal snow or above normal since its right on the edge of the 2 zones.

375 Chris S. { 08.29.13 at 6:55 pm }

I live in Hartford, CT, and do not like the cold at all. Nor the heat for that matter, but cold, brrrrr….. Give me October all year. :-)

376 Darren Fisher { 08.29.13 at 6:07 pm }

We live about 20 Miles southwest of Lansing, Michigan. When do you suspect we will see snow and will we see large amounts of snow for this upcoming winter??

377 Skaros { 08.29.13 at 5:39 pm }

I’m from Chicago Illinois, I hated last winter. It didn’t snow till February… and when they were predicting a big snow storm it was just mostly rain. I LOVE snow and I just want to see a very white winter. Last winter, all the snow blew southeast and hit Indiana & southern Illinois. I just want to see a white Christmas and many snow storms.

378 paulettegiambertone { 08.29.13 at 4:31 pm }

i am re planted New Yorker…I now live in Richmond Va. …PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE,,,,TELL ME WE ARE GETTING A DECENT AMOUNT OF SNOW ..LIKE 2 OR 3 FEET. I miss my snow storms so bad. just send it all here.

379 Linda { 08.29.13 at 1:52 pm }

North Carolina will get more rain. I think we have had enough. This has been the wettest summer I can remember and it looks like winter is going to be the same.

380 Kyler { 08.29.13 at 1:52 pm }

I live in Idaho and who knows what winter will be like here, one day it will be 30 below zero and clear sky’s, and the next day it will be 30 degrees and snow 12 inches. Winters are unpredictable here. We have not had a good winter since 2010 though.

381 Linda Kinczel { 08.29.13 at 10:22 am }

Here in W.Va. has been the wettest on record. Gardens did not do well and now August feels like Sept. Last week I had more hummingbirds than I could count and now down to six. This is early for them to leave. Also, fruit trees abundant and also nuts.

382 Carla Pettigrew { 08.29.13 at 2:40 am }

I am in Marion Indiana and I love the cold and snow so I say bring it on let it snow let it snow let it snowwwwwwwwww!!!!!!! I have noticed a few things going on that is pointing to least a cold cold winter Idk bout snow but definitely cold . First is spiders are building their webs up very high .Second I have seen squirrels collecting and gathering food already . It has been very mild this summer with about one week were it turned cold like winter and we here got temps into the 40s . So I do believe with what last winter was its just a calm before the storm so to speak . I HOPE FOR A VERY VERY WHITE winter so my two year old will have fun playing in it …

383 Michelle { 08.28.13 at 10:58 pm }

I live in Illinois and dream (all the time) of living Arizona. One day we will move out there since we HATE winter with a passion. Not looking forward to what will very possibly be coming our way in the next 3-4 months.

384 wendy burley { 08.28.13 at 10:44 pm }

I live in Mass,am also a skier.So bring on the cold and the snow.white Thanksgiving,Christmas,New years,if you please.think snow.

385 Gloria Gilreath { 08.28.13 at 10:02 pm }

I live in Spartanburg South Carolina, Are we going to get snow this winter I hope so

386 Myrtle Sigman { 08.28.13 at 9:51 pm }

I live in SE Pennsylvania and I’ve noticed so leaves starting to fall on out tree. I’m torn with this news because the child in me loves the excitement of the anticipation of a big snow but the adult in me hates everything that comes with it.

387 Wendy { 08.28.13 at 9:34 pm }

Will we ever get rain again in Southern California? When is the next El Nino predicted;
it seems like the only time we get any measurable rain. We need another 2010-2011 season!

388 marlie { 08.28.13 at 7:15 pm }

and what about the SOUTHWESTERN CORNER of UTAH?

389 Helen { 08.28.13 at 7:14 pm }

I’m from Maine. I don’t know if I should cry or go jump off a cliff. This bites.

390 sam stork { 08.28.13 at 4:35 pm }

Would love to have some snow in Fairbury, IL! We haven’t had much since 2009-2010. I have twins that would LOVE to play in it this year :)

391 Lee { 08.28.13 at 4:30 pm }

I live in ohio and they always tell me if I don’t like the weather. stick around It will change.

392 indredhead { 08.28.13 at 3:23 pm }

I live in COLD NW INDIANA I pray for the chance to get out of here . The winters are
so brutal dislike ICE & SNOW its no fun to get out in it when you older. Nuts to winter.

393 jonathan tribble { 08.28.13 at 3:07 pm }

I live in woodstock,Ga,about 30 miles north of atlanta and we have already seen the upper fifties just a few nights ago. I was in my back yard and found a black ant hill about three feet off the ground,combine that with the wooly worm having thick black fur and the moss on the north side of the trees growing in especially thick and the leaves changing already,I believe we a setting up for a blizzard here like we had in ’93. I think we are heading for a winter like 1962-63 as the weather patterns are near identical and the jet streams are already setting up in winter style patterns.

394 Deb { 08.28.13 at 1:56 pm }

In southern Indiana the wooly worms are mostly brown, and we have seen two hornet nests less than 20 feet from the ground. Too early to know what the persimmon seeds will show, but hoping for a mild winter due to the early signs.

395 Cheryl { 08.28.13 at 1:51 pm }

Time to buy a generator. Last year we got by fairly well with a little ice that melted by noon. Looks like I’ll be using some of my vacation in winter.

396 Michael Amato { 08.28.13 at 1:49 pm }

I believe winter will once again be bad for 4-7 weeks. With global warming I don’t think enough cold air will pool in the arctic to provide below normal temps for the entire winter everywhere. The position of the NAO will determine where the bad part of winter will set up. I also believe with the warm Gulf Stream, New England, Where I live could get plenty of snow & rain this year as any coastal storm hits the Gulf Stream. I hope I’m wrong!!

397 Cheryl { 08.28.13 at 1:47 pm }

Sharon from Savannah:

I live in Amherst County, about 1/2 hour from Bedford. Our winter last year was more ice than snow, but we have always had major snow in February. Usually VDOT has all the major roads clear by noon. I take advantage of the snow and stay inside. I’m from West Virginia and know how to drive in it. People around here freak out when they get 2 inches. I used to drive in 2 feet.

398 Lee { 08.28.13 at 12:47 pm }

“Ohio” everybody around me tells me.”if you don’t like the weather stick around it will change.”But I do like cool summers and hot winters.

399 toni { 08.28.13 at 12:19 pm }

I had a feeling it would be a rough winter the fruit trees and nut trees have had plenty this year. The trees are already changing and the leaves falling too. Looks like an early fall here in Kentucky. I have been trying to store everything I can from my garden. I just hope we don’t get an ice storm. I can get out with snow but not with ice.

400 toni { 08.28.13 at 12:18 pm }

I live in South Texas, can’t really tell what the weather will be, it shows everywhere but the coastal areas.

403 Helen G { 08.28.13 at 11:53 am }

I have a home in the Catskills in New York State. I already see the fruit trees are loaded this year with fruit. More than usual. Also lots of acorns. Mice trying to get in to settle down. Feels cooler than normal this August. The leaves are turning also. Folks here are saying Snow this winter!

404 Mike { 08.28.13 at 11:49 am }

I’m not buying the forecast for the 2013-2014 winter. I see a repeat of the last two winters which has been mild. Here around the Lake Erie region winter is not felt till around december. Novembers have been near perfect. I attribute this to the greenhouse gas effects coming from China.

405 Duffy0725 { 08.28.13 at 10:44 am }

I live in Pensacola, Fl and after a really wet summer I am hoping for a cold winter. For someone from the south I love cold weather.

406 Kathy { 08.28.13 at 10:41 am }

Live in middle Ga..hoping for a cold winter…we had the mildest summer yet…our pecan trees are already dropping nuts, and its still August.

407 Linda F { 08.28.13 at 10:35 am }

Hoping for the coldest winter on record for central Florida please please

408 fritschy { 08.28.13 at 10:34 am }

What about the Mtns. of NC. We get more snow than the rest of the state. The Mtns. of NC should be considered the Mid Atlantic say from Asheville west and north. Including the Mtns. in the same zone as the southeast is crazy with all the cold and snow in the mtns. We’ll have cold and snow while Charlotte NC. and Greenville SC will have rain and cool.

409 Kirsten Noel Vaccaro { 08.28.13 at 10:22 am }

I’m Happy It’s Going To Snow This Winter & 2012 WasToo Warm For Winter.

410 Chad { 08.28.13 at 9:54 am }

I live in Nebraska. What kind of winter will I see here? I hope there is a lot of snow!! No ice though! We have not had a good “winter” for a long time. I miss those winters from when I was younger. I want to see them again!!

411 Michelle { 08.28.13 at 9:52 am }

Northern California Sierra Nevada foothills & low Sierra hasn’t had a great snow in several years. I didn’t read anything that truly covered our area :(. We sure need it. Advice???

412 Johanna { 08.28.13 at 8:59 am }

I’m in Maine and we’ve had the oddest summer. And now my hummingbirds are already tanking up. They’re going through lots of nectar. But the goldfinches haven’t begun turning color yet. (Whew!) Still, I think we’re going to have an early fall…and winter?

413 Mary Anne { 08.28.13 at 8:53 am }

Can’t believe the leaves are already changing back East and South. Here in Colorado it is hot! Mid 90’s to upper 90’s. Habe some acorns to excessive squirrel behavior either. I love summer. Not looking forward to brrrrr weather

414 charlene swenglish { 08.28.13 at 8:38 am }

419 Nancy { 08.28.13 at 12:44 am }

In coastal NH here. We’re taking delivery this week of our wood for the winter and hoping 4 cord will do it. The leaves are turning here and we’re not done with our garden yet. A lot of snowblowing apparently in store.

420 D. Carver { 08.27.13 at 11:05 pm }

What is the forecast for Western 2013-2014.

421 Norma Arledge { 08.27.13 at 10:50 pm }

I bought the Farmers Almanac already and live in South Texas but it did not give me any idea of the weather for the winter where I live…It is too broad of a area..

422 charlene swenglish { 08.27.13 at 8:23 pm }

We live in Southwestern Pa. We sure wish we were having a winter like 2011-2012. We both hate winter! Better move south!!!

423 hopj65 { 08.27.13 at 7:17 pm }

Live in Western WA and I’m from NE so it would be nice to see the snow please please!

424 Bobby-B { 08.27.13 at 5:04 pm }

I hope a glacier grows on us folk near Chicago. If there are any more lousy winters around here I’m moving to Siberia ; ).

425 Heather { 08.27.13 at 5:01 pm }

I’m getting married march 22, 2014 and I have family coming from out of state. I swear if it snows on or around my wedding date I WILL NOT be a happy bride!

426 Rick { 08.27.13 at 3:26 pm }

We need the rain here in Houston.

427 Sandi S. { 08.27.13 at 3:13 pm }

Boo.. for ATL! I want at least 2 good snow storms. We can’t handle anymore rain.

428 Micelle { 08.27.13 at 3:13 pm }

God help the farmers and ranchers in Southern Idaho next spring in summer if we don’t get a significant amount of snow pack and rain. Best we can hope for is this is one time the almanac is wrong for next year. Prayers are always welcome.

429 heather b { 08.27.13 at 2:49 pm }

Miss T – I was just saying the same thing last week. I’m in Jersey and my daughter just found a beautiful “fall leaf”. Our yard has tons of leaves already as well.

430 Rea { 08.27.13 at 1:40 pm }

The line that crosses Pennsylvania…where is it in relationship to Pittsburgh and Johnstown? We always seem to walk a fine line in SW Pennsylvania.

431 Leah { 08.27.13 at 1:38 pm }

We are on the NC, TN, GA borders. It has not stopped raining since Jan. Well then again it rained all winter last year. Boo. Anyhow our trees are starting to change and my deck is covered in acorns. The walnut trees are going crazy as well. I am not looking forward to any more rain. Cold is fine, snow is wonderful.. keep the rain.

432 chintan { 08.27.13 at 1:30 pm }

another disappointed winter will come in Atlanta three disappointed winter already came and now fourth one is coming up!

433 Lori { 08.27.13 at 1:29 pm }

We need a good cold winter in the mid-Atlantic, so bring it on – I’ll believe it when I see it!

434 Brian { 08.27.13 at 12:46 pm }

Bring it on! After these 2 lackluster winters here in the southern great lakes I’m ready for another real winter, like in the glory days back in the late 70s. Yeah,as in Blizzard of ’78,although I know it won’t probably even get remotely close to those levels

435 Keith Ventimiglia { 08.27.13 at 12:25 pm }

I live in Eastpointe, MI Would love to have a cold and snowy winter…White Christmas please!

436 MissT { 08.27.13 at 11:30 am }

Was just commenting to my husband the other day about how it was only mid August and the leaves on the trees are changing and falling already. Looks like I’ll be out buying a few sets of Under Armor that the football players wear cause this house gets chilly enough in the winter!!!

437 Barbara { 08.27.13 at 11:04 am }

In Eastern Washington we don’t want another drier than normal winter. We want some rain and snow but doesn’t look like we will get it. If it hadn’t been for the rain we received last June our wheat farmers wouldn’t be harvesting the great yield they had this year.

438 becky l { 08.27.13 at 10:40 am }

Here in Northeast Ohio it’s been a fairly mild summer. Started out a little wet. This will be my 4th winter here and I’ve been expecting this kinda winter to hit at some point. Hoping for a white Christmas! Not looking forward to driving in it, but oh well. Love the Farmer’s Almanac. Quite accurate every time!

439 lewisk { 08.27.13 at 8:17 am }

I recently relocated to NYC from western NC (winters there certainly aren’t what they used to be). Coming up, I was taught to watch the activities of animals and to see what’s taking place with vegetation. Unable to monitor much of either in NYC so wondering what folks are seeing? Many thanks.

440 Coastal Lady { 08.27.13 at 7:23 am }

YAY! We live in the MidAtlantic on the Southern Coast of Delaware. Our winters are mostly mild with any snow quickly melting or changing to rain. Would love to see some real snow this year. But maybe only ‘one’ good one! LOL

441 ShawnM { 08.27.13 at 5:45 am }

We had thundersnow with the 3 storms last winter. Do you think thundersnow is a possibility again this winter? Also are there any possibilities for a blizzard or two for the midwest including where I live which is Missouri?

442 Jeffrey { 08.27.13 at 12:58 am }

I lived in Wisconsin for 50 some years now I know why I live in TX. The older I got the more I hated snow and cold.

445 Rooimmy { 08.26.13 at 10:56 pm }

From southwest Wisconsin and just noticed this weekend that the trees have just the slightest twinge of color change already! Best get out the winter ware early this year.

446 Sara { 08.26.13 at 10:32 pm }

Love the snow so much am seriously considering moving to Alaska. Excited about the winter forecast. Husband hates the cold, hibernates in his recliner with his blanky all winter.

447 susan { 08.26.13 at 9:50 pm }

Well, I live in Illinois near St. Louis, and I love the weather forecast. As long as it is snow and not ice, I am fine with it!

448 kathy { 08.26.13 at 6:00 pm }

The squirrels are going crazy here in GA, collecting nuts and the trees are already shedding here too! Can hardly wait for fall

449 Phil St.Pierre { 08.26.13 at 5:01 pm }

Hey when was the last time we had a terrific snow storm in NYCity that any “weatherman ” actually predicted it….sure they said some snow but not 22 inches. They say rain,it never does, they say thunderstorm,none, they say sunny and it rains….i cannot believe that colleges give degrees in “weather forecasting ” Pretty girls talking heads ,yes but actual proof , they need a fortune teller. ONE TRUISM: If Jim Cantore is on your Main Street forecasting ,KISS YOUR ASS GOODBYE!!

450 michelelucas71 { 08.26.13 at 2:54 pm }

What’s it looking like for virginia beach?? I love snow and I’m ready I hope we get lots of snow

451 MorElectricHeating { 08.26.13 at 11:47 am }

What a BRUTAL winter. That looks like the late 1970’s! We were certain that Caleb Weatherbee would drop a bombshell forecast of a brutal winter, given the amazing lack of Solar activity that continued this year, now approaching early 1800’s little ice age levels. This forecast is everything and more than we thought it would be. We have been anxiously awaiting this forecast with your top secret mathematical and astronomical formula, that uses sunspot activity. This should also start the ball rolling for others to forecast. We have been watching a silence for the second year in a row, where meteorologists refuse to put out a winter forecast after the forecast disaster two years ago (2009-2010 mild winter that was forecast the opposite).

452 MissyfromTx { 08.26.13 at 10:22 am }

As a Texas girl and a husband from Panama City,Fl we aren’t looking fwd to the “biting cold snowy weather” that it’s predicting for the U.P. of Mi where are are stationed. We have been pretty lucky these last 2 winters up here but dreading the cold coming soon. Leaves are already changing and its only August!

453 Jaime McLeod { 08.26.13 at 10:19 am }

saabstories – Pick up the 2014 Farmers’ Almanac for spring and beyond.

454 K. Hunt { 08.26.13 at 9:57 am }

I live in west central Georgia. We haven’t had snow for years now. I am praying for a “White Christmas”. I’m always a bit over optimistic, since when it does snow it here, it is usually in February. I love the Farmers’ Almanac and their predictions are right on. Loving the 2014 Winter Forecast. I have been forecasting the exact same 2014 winter weather. COLD! COLD! COLD! I love it!!!!!! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!!!!!

455 saabstories { 08.26.13 at 8:42 am }

OK that’s winter… What about the most dangerous parts of the year, like spring and summer, where tornadoes and hurricances are the threat? smh

456 julie klein { 08.26.13 at 7:55 am }

As I live in Vermont and we’re already seeing our leaves change and for fall so I am excited for winter as i’m a farmers daughter and we believe the almanac as we always believed the signs when we had our farm.

457 MattMc { 08.25.13 at 10:36 pm }

And yet, the Pacific Northwest (or is it “northwet?”) where indeed wet weather is almost a given during the winter months, the overall winter season could average out drier than normal.
I guess, I’ll be able to ride my bike longer this year. Hoping for some snow. Sounds like I’ll be able to get all the home projects done. :-)

458 Ethan { 08.25.13 at 10:06 pm }

Nice outlook farmers almanac! I am expecting the trough to stay predominantly in the west/ central u.s this winter as a weak la nina/ neutral winter is expected. By mid and late winter colder then normal conditions should really establish themselves in the northeast. My full winter outlook is posted here:

459 Sandy { 08.25.13 at 9:29 pm }

Lots of snow. Good excuse to head out in the Jeep.

460 Jeff Bankston { 08.25.13 at 9:20 pm }

Here in the Florida Panhandle of Panama City, we are still waterlogged from mutiple flooding events, not even caused by hurricanes. Can’t wait to see how much more rain this little gem of a forecast brings for our normally dryer winters.

461 Kevin Bennett { 08.25.13 at 8:56 pm }

I live in Illinois, i certainly don’t like that Forcast.Hate winter.I wish i could hit the lottery, move to a warmer climate.

462 Laurie { 08.25.13 at 8:27 pm }

I’m a Texan who LOVES cold weather! Bring it on Winter!

463 Michelle Lybrook { 08.25.13 at 8:04 pm }

Not liking this forecast for Indiana.

464 Dory Gibson { 08.25.13 at 6:35 pm }

Bring IT!!! I LOVE winter. The more cold and snow the better. Better for ice fishing and snowshoeing! It’s crisp, clean and refreshing. Nothing better!

465 Pam { 08.25.13 at 5:58 pm }

Im in St Louis and our winters seem to always have a few icy days and some snow, both of which I hate. This coming winter forecast makes me want to scream and then move to Hawaii!!!

469 Jan Morgan { 08.25.13 at 5:30 pm }

Oh No! So my first winter in Northern Colorado is going to be piercingly cold – this California transplant better get ready!!

470 ROBERT SAMUELL { 08.25.13 at 5:21 pm }

in the southeast chilly and wetter than normal conditions the high humidity makes for feels like temps of bone chilling cold especially with the slightest wind

471 Heather { 08.25.13 at 4:47 pm }

I’m sorry, but I would like to steal the snow forecast and push it back to Nevada, Oregon and other N. West states. :( We could really use some epic snow fall.

472 Brenda { 08.25.13 at 4:10 pm }

Me too Patricia! We just moved here from the AL/GA area and I sure would miss the cooler weather after all this heat we have been experiencing. Bring on frosty!!

473 feargus13 { 08.25.13 at 3:46 pm }

For the Deep South, looks similar to last year.

474 Candice Casey { 08.25.13 at 3:46 pm }

I too have found the Farmers’ Almanac to be extraordinarily accurate. It is shocking that this little tome can predict the weather accurately more than a year in advance (drafting, printing, binding and distribution takes adds months to the prognostication period) when those providing weather “predictions” for the coming week, following day, even same day for a very small local area have such an abysmal accuracy rate.

With the Farmers’ Almanac being so accurate and predicting such misery nation wide for the coming winter, I’m wondering if we might get a recommendation as to where on earth we who do not fair well or desire to live under these abhorrent conditions might escape to between now and next 4th of July to stay warm, snow free, and reasonably dry?

475 Linda Henning { 08.25.13 at 3:45 pm }

I’m going to quit looking at this site if you don’t include Alaska, Your missing a 3rd of the US.

476 anne { 08.25.13 at 3:37 pm }

Ohhhhhhh my! Hoping that the Pacific NW forecast is off ! It has been a very long, dry summer and this area needs the rainfall! We are way below average as it is right now.

477 DarleneFerguson { 08.25.13 at 3:29 pm }

The older I get,the more I hate winter.

478 Mike Sargenti { 08.25.13 at 3:22 pm }

I live by the Farmers Almanac. Seldom is it incorrect. I’m sure 2014 will not be no exception. Thank you from Dunsmuir, California.

479 Keith Monson { 08.25.13 at 3:21 pm }

I know him! His real name is Snowstradomus! hahahaha! Anyway thanks for the heads up. I am planning on buying three more ceramic heaters from! I ’bout froze ‘em off last winter!

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
