Walnut Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
1 stick unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup mashed ripe bananas
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 9″x5″ loaf pan with butter and flour. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, chocolate chips, and walnuts. Whip room temperature butter in a large bowl. Gradually add sugar, beating until well blended. Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by the mashed bananas and vanilla extract, and finally the flour mixture. Pur the mixture into the loaf pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Turn out onto a rack to cool.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
