Irish Ginger Snaps

Ingredients:
1 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 egg
1 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp ground ginger
3/4 cup shortening
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 cups all purpose flour

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F. Cream sugar, egg, salt, and shortening together. Add flour, baking soda, and spices. Mix well. Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and roll the balls in sugar. Bake at 350° F for 5 to 6 minutes.

very good recipe as i love things that have a little of that spice in them.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1910, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
